This year I wasn't really on top of things. Somehow family pictures and Christmas cards were lost in the shuffle of life! I managed to snap a cute picture of my kiddos when they all happened to be dressed in reasonable clothing. Big Boy B could care less about the camera. He was more concerned with why I was making him stand in this dreadful white substance we call snow.

I only sent out a few Christmas cards this year, so please do not be offended if you did not receive one. My list grows by leaps and bounds every year, and due to budget constraints it isn't possible to send out personal greetings to everybody.

Our love is with each and every one of you as we celebrate this most wonderful season.

This Christmas we are making it a priority in our home to really remember Christ during all of our celebrations. Christmas presents are being kept to a minimum. Every night during the twelve days of Christmas we have read scriptures and watched videos online about those scriptures. We are keeping it simple. Bringing home to our children the most important reason for celebrating.

Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

My favorite Christmas song of all time is, "O Holy Night"
(preferably when sung by Josh Groban or Il Divo)
There is just something about the lyrics that brings tears to my eyes and goose bumps to my skin every time I hear it.
They are incredibly poignant when you read them, and you can actually think about the words.

I just love this song. It's so simple that even children can comprehend it's importance.

I am sure, as parents, we have all had the realization that raising children, especially in the world today, is a weighty responsibility. There are always times when I feel that I am not doing a good enough job, that my kids just don't get it. Then there are days like we've had lately...

~Since Sunday Mister P has been walking around singing

"I hope they call me on a mission"

~Yesterday afternoon I heard Mister P teaching Big Boy B the words to

"I am a child of God"

So, so stinkin' sweet!

~Sass C has been practicing cursive by writing out the words to "I am a child of God" {above}

~At dinner the other night Mister P told me, "The resurrection was when Jesus died, but then wasn't dead anymore."

~Sass C built The Tree of Life {photo above} out of Lego's. Complete with an iron rod.

Mister P built a temple. Complete with an Angel Moroni.

Wish I would have taken a picture of that!

Days like these I just know, whatever it is I am doing, I am doing it right.

I learn from my kids everyday the true love of Christ. They leach me things that I have tried to learn for a lifetime.

I love you, my crazy kiddos!

Remembering...

On a day like today, you can't help but remember. There is something about this song that revives all the emotions that I felt that day.

We all say, Never Forget, but in so many ways we already have have.

I read a great article by President Thomas S. Monson of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Take a moment to read it, but I wanted to share a little piece of it with you.

"It is constancy that God would have from us. Tragedies are not merely opportunities to give Him a fleeting thought, or for momentary insight to His plan for our happiness. Destruction allows us to rebuild our lives in the way He teaches us, and to become something different than we were. We can make Him the center of our thoughts and His Son, Jesus Christ, the pattern for our behavior. We may not only find faith in God in our sorrow. We may also become faithful to Him in times of calm."

Remember, Always Remember!

Texas has a love affair with itself. You can get anything and everything in the shape of Texas. Including, but not limited to:

and Sunglasses.

(no joke, I just saw some on a lady right before we left this great state)

They love their tile down there, and it's not always the pretty kind. I can see the practicality of it, but I am sick of cleaning grout. I could use my entry as a bowling alley. That is entirely too much tile! Time to go back to hardwood!

Terribly Two...

Baby B turned two on Friday. More about that another day.

Today, however, two is not such a good thing.

Every child has to do it. For Miss C it was nail polish. For Mister P it was peanut butter. Baby B's choice, wall spackle. A whole tub of it!

He knew he was in B.I.G. trouble! You can tell by the look on his face.

Thanks to his little adventure I got to spend my Sunday cleaning carpets, walls, counters, furniture, tile and one very spackled boy instead of going to church. You know, because I have nothing better to do right now!

I guess he is no longer Baby B anymore. I need to come up with a new name for him. Suggestions?

I just spent a week in Paris with my mother in-law, my nieces, my sister in-law and her mother in-law. To say it was an amazing trip cannot even begin to describe it.

I don't even know where to begin, so I am going to start with pictures. These are just a few of the six hundred and some odd pictures, but these are some of my favorite.

I'm hoping I will get around to writing up some stories of my time there. Right now I am just trying to get my brain wrapped around everything. Now that I am back home, I have a hard time believing that I was ever there. I have spent the better part of the last day and a half editing and posting pictures. It has been nice to see them and remember everything again. European history is my favorite subject and something I can become very passionate about. It was overwhelming at times to be in the middle of my favorite time period in French history. It is an experience I will never forget, and one I hope to experience with my children. I am more motivated than ever to travel the world and experience different cultures as a family. Just amazing... Amazing.

And lastly. Thanks to Marianne for including me on this trip. It was an experience of a lifetime, and I will be forever grateful! Love you!

Salad Bowl Saturday...

It's Wednesday, I know.

It's just been one of those weeks.

Here's your salad for last week.

Another one of my all time favorites!

Spicy Honey Chicken Salad

with Honey-Citrus Vinaigrette

from Our Best Bites

First of all, the Chicken. Oh the chicken! Be careful with this, you will eat it all before you make the salad. Do yourself a favor. Don't change the spices, and use thighs. This is the only recipe (so far) that I don't substitute breasts for thighs.

Spicy Honey Chicken

8 boneless skinless chicken thighs, about 2lbs
2 t vegetable oil

Rub:

2 t granulated garlic
2 t chili powder
1/2 t onion powder
1/2 t coriander
1 t kosher salt
1 t cumin
1/2 t chipotle chili powder

Glaze:
1/2 C Honey
1T Cider Vinegar

Combine the rub spices in bowl and mix well.

Use kitchen shears (or a pair of clean scissors) to trim off any excess fat from the chicken pieces.Pat dry. Drizzle oil over chicken and rub in with your hands to lightly coat all the pieces. Then toss chicken with the spice rub to coat all sides well. Use your hands and get in there! Grill chicken for 3-5 minutes on each side, until cooked through.

While chicken is cooking, warm honey in the microwave so it’s not so thick. Add the vinegar and combine well. Reserve 2T honey glaze for later. Take the rest and brush on chicken (both sides) in the final moments of grilling.

I’m gonna warn you that this can make a hot mess, literally. It’s sugar, and it’s gonna drip. But the smelly smoke is worth it for a minute or two. Just leave your grill on for a few minutes after the chicken is done to burn off any excess glaze. It’s totally worth it once you taste this stuff.

Remember how I had you reserve that extra couple tablespoons of glaze? Ya, drizzle that on top now. Your taste buds will thank you.

Honey-Citrus Vinaigrette

1 garlic clove, minced
1/2 T grated onion
1/3 C fresh orange juice
3T fresh lime juice
2T honey
3/4 t cumin
1/2 t salt
1/4 t ground black pepper
1/2 C vegetable oil

Place all ingredients in a tightly sealed jar and shake your bootie (and the jar) vigorously. Store in the fridge, and shake before dressing salad.

Spicy Honey Chicken Salad

1-2 heads Romaine or Red Leaf Lettuce
2 ripe but firm mangoes, chilled
2-3 ripe but firm avocados
optional: thinly sliced red onions

In the winter months, when mangos either aren't readily available or aren't too tasty, I use a gala apple or two and slivered almonds with the avocado.

Today at church the primary kids learned about the Holy Ghost.

When we got home Mister P came up to me and said:

"I know what the Holy Ghost is. When I woke up at night and was scared, I pray to Jesus. The Holy Ghost told me to turn on the light, so I wasn't scared. Then I wasn't scared. That is the Holy Ghost."

It's already Saturday again. Where did that week go.

Well, here we go again...

I love this. I've made it twice in the last couple weeks, and I am going to make it again for Memorial Day.

Mango Quinoa Salad

from Our Best Bites

{f.y.i. quinoa is pronounced 'keen-wah' and can be found in the aisle with rice and other grains. Locally I have only found it at HEB.}

Mango Quinoa Salad
Recipe adapted from Ali Vincent
2 cups cooked quinoa* at room temperature, or chilled
1 14 oz can black beans, drained and rinsed
1 medium mango, peeled and diced
1 red bell pepper, diced
6 green onions, thinly sliced
1 handful chopped cilantro (about 1/2 cup)
4 tablespoons red wine vinegar
3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
1-2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
kosher salt
freshly cracked black pepper
*Quinoa can be cooked in water or broth. I suggest using vegetable or chicken broth for enhanced flavor, but plain water works great too.
Place cooked quinoa in a large bowl. Add mango, red pepper, green onion, black beans, and cilantro. In a small bowl combine vinegar, olive oil, and lime juice. Whisk until smooth and pour on top of salad. Toss to combine and add salt and pepper to taste. Chill for at least one hour before serving.

Because my hubby says out of everything I make, he loves my salads the most.

Because not a single one is one of my own recipes.

Because I think everybody needs a little something healthy in their life.

And most of all, because I love salads - every Saturday I am going to post one of my favorite salad recipes.

And to start things off...

Strawberry Spinach Salad

with Lemon Poppyseed Vinaigrette

from Our Best Bites

(a.k.a. my favorite site for recipes)

Strawberry Spinach SaladRecipe from Our Best Bites and Stephanie Jones

1 10-oz. bag fresh baby spinach
1/2-1 small red onion, thinly sliced
1 medium cucumber, seeded and sliced (you can peel it first if you want)
1 pint strawberries, sliced
1 c. sliced almonds, toasted
1 recipe Lemon Poppy Seed Vinaigrette1/2 lb. grilled chicken breasts, sliced or diced (optional)
Toss ingredients together and serve immediately. You can also arrange the ingredients on individual plates for serving.

Lemon Poppy Seed Vinaigrette
Recipe by Our Best Bites, inspired by Kate’s sister-in-law Stephanie

2-3 large lemons (use as needed–you’ll need 1/3 c. juice and 1 tsp. zest)
1/4 c. rice wine vinegar
1/4 c. canola oil
3/4 tsp. kosher salt
1/4 tsp. freshly ground black pepper
1/4 c. sugar
2 tsp. poppy seeds
1 tsp. grated onion
1 clove finely pressed garlic

Using a Microplane or other fine grater, grate 1 tsp. lemon rind off the lemons. Grate 1 tsp. onion. Place in a small container with a lid. Add the remaining ingredients and shake vigorously. If possible, refrigerate at least an hour before serving. Shake well before serving.

I made a few changes to the recipe, out of necessity. I added some arugula, because I didn't have enough spinach to feed my whole family. I also used white wine vinegar instead of rice wine vinegar, because that is all I had in my pantry.

We really enjoyed this salad. Don't even think about using another dressing. The lemon makes the whole thing very light and refreshing. This is a keeper in my recipe box, declared so by the hubby and Miss C!

A Fairytale...

I love a wedding.

I especially love a Royal Wedding.

I remember when I was growing up my mom would tell me about when she watched the wedding of Princess Diana and Prince Charles. Of course as most girls were, I dreamed of being a princess and have a fairytale wedding, just like Princess Diana. I am sure this lead to my crazy love of all things wedding. That and I pretty much saw a wedding or four every weekend for a lot of my life. I don't know. You tell me.

So, when I finally realized that I wouldn't be marrying Prince William, or any other prince for the matter, I decided to look forward to the day I could watch a royal wedding. Even if only on TV.

I scoured the internet to find my favorite pictures. I just thought I would share.

Don't you just love this picture? I do. And that ring...

That brings me to my next picture.

Probably one of my favorites.

Her dress was STUNNING, I mean breathtaking in every sense of the word. This is how you want your daughter to look on her wedding day. I appreciate the modesty and the classic nature of this dress. And I want one for myself.

Lets just talk about Pippa for a brief second. Wow, just as beautiful as her sister. Can I have a dress like that too?

I love that pomp and pageantry lives on somewhere in this modern world.

The actual picture I was looking for was the wide angle that showed the whole front of the abbey as they knelt. It was so sacred and spiritual in it's own way.

Hello! Teeny tiny little waist. She hit a home run with this one too. Not sure what Camilla is wearing, I have seen her look better.

This picture reminds me a lot of the next picture. They are such a beautiful couple.

Konversations With Kidz, Part II...

Me: What are community helpers?
Mister P: Fire mans, Police mans, Doctors, Dentists, Teachers...and pizza mans and ice cream mans.
Me: I don't think think they are Mister P.
Mister P: Yes they are! They Bring you food when you are hungry!
Me: Okay.

Miss C: I know why bluebonnets are called bluebonnets.
Me: Why?
Miss C: They are blue.
Me: True
Miss C: And a bonnet used to be a hat. A really really long time ago, like in the 60's or 70's.
Me: Think a little farther back than that sister. Think "Little House on the Prairie" (she's reading the series right now).
Miss C: Oh, that's real?

Mister P: Sassy, I got to eat pizza tonight. Caesar's kind.
Miss C: That's no fair. I want pizza too! (She happened to have no fun at all that day. She had her hair and nails done, got to get dressed up and got to go to a grown up party for her Grandma. No fun)
Mister P: It's a shame. Such a shame. {shaking his head}

Dear Cousin...

My Dear Sister Cousin,

I am not going to use your name, because I don't have to. There is only one of you out there and everybody knows who you are, Mr. Toby Wilkerson.

Sister cousin. That makes us sound like we should have a reality show on TLC or something. Don't you agree? Or Wsquared, that could be another show too! Which reminds me, we have a book to write!

Now on to the goods...

You inspire me.

You are my constant support. My source of adventure. My sounding board. My strongest advocate. My traveling companion. The Mutt to my Jeff. You are a sister in every sense of the word. I will stand next to you and defend you against all odds, and I know that you will do the same for me.

Life brings trials and ours has had their fair share. Through it all you have stood tall. For me, for you, for your children, for your family. You are completely selfless. You have handled stresses more than anyone could have imagined. Stresses that stretch far and beyond imagination - deployments and death, to mention a few.

We don't see each other often, but we don't need to. 706 minutes last month proves that.

Dear Friend...

My Dear Friend,

I am not going to use your name, you will know who you are. It has been many years since we have seen each other. Not since a special night long ago, your wedding reception. I don't remember how long. Has it been 14 years? [I have been corrected, 16 years. Boy was I off!]

There are so many things I remember. Some things sound very stalker"ish", but I have a really good memory...promise. I remember your green velvet prom dress and the time you were a Robert Palmer girl for Halloween. Like I said, good memory. More importantly I remember YOU. Your kind smile an your sweet words. I will never forget the letter you sent me after you went away to college to tell me you were marrying your beau, of a very short time. And the night of your reception. I will always remember talking with you while you changed out of your dress in the Relief Society room.

That was the last time we talked. I was still in High School, you were married. It happens. Then the world of social networking started to come about. I looked for you on myspace then facebook to no avail. I couldn't find you anywhere. Then there was the day I found your sister and through her I found you. I was so happy to send that friend request. I was so excited I forgot to tell you how happy I was to finally find you again. This is a long long long time coming. I am sorry it has taken so long.

You inspire me.

You inspire me by the honest words you express about your life. No sugar coating comes from you. I appreciate that. You inspire me by your passion to live a healthy life and to pass it on to your children. You inspire me by your love of the Gospel and the true sweet spirit you have.

Happy 6th Birthday Mr. P!

You have brought such love and laughter to this family, we know we wouldn't be the same without you. You are the most amazing gift from heaven, Mr. P. We love you so much!

SIX is a big year for Mr. P and we are starting it off with a bang. We surprised him with a trip to Seaworld this year. This is my boy who at Thanksgiving dinner said he was thankful for killer whales. And whose favorite thing to watch on TV, other than the Food Network with me, is anything and everything to have to do with sharks and whales. He can tell you many facts about whales, Orca's especially, that I didn't even know. Thank goodness for Animal Planet and the Discovery Channel!

Much more on this later.

Mr. P's list of favorite things includes everything boys like. All things Transformers and Super Hero have dominated the last few years. This year has added Star Wars and Power Rangers. We had to downplay his birthday, because of said surprise. So on the morning of his birthday, before school, I let him open what he thought was his only present.

( I am a mean mom, and I am not afraid to admit it)

Here it is. It also has a t-shirt with Darth Vader on it.

His first reaction...

"Oh cool! But you could have got me a droid shirt!"

Me: You know, back when I was growing up we didn't have google. We had to use an encyclopedia.

Me: No, not until tomorrow.

Mr. P: But...

Me: No, you have to wait until tomorrow.

Mr: P: I said, "AH DAMN!"

Miss C: I learned about Eleanor Roosevelt at school today.

Me: She was married to a President.

We are driving home from school passing a house where a very (no joke here) over weight man lives. He happens to be outside.

Mr. P: Woah. Look at him. He is puffed up.

Me: That's not nice.

Mr. P: He is B.I.G.

Just wanted to give props to myself. It has been long and hard, but totally worth it. The journey isn't over. I still have about 10 or 15 pounds to go.

My total lost thus far: 35 pounds

I am a much happier, healthier me!

We recently had the amazing opportunity of visiting Costa Rica.

Honestly I don't feel too much like writing about the whole experience, but I am more then willing to share my pictures.

We flew into San Jose, stayed around for a day. Then we drove own to Manuel Antonio. We had a great time. We enjoyed ourselves away from the kids, which is the most important thing of all!

Last week I received Miss C's placement test results. I was a little scared because, well, she has been a little behind in the past.

No need for that. None at all.

In reading she tested at almost a 6th grade level. That's right, my little 3rd grader is a reader! In the rest of the subjects she tested better than average.

My big mommy heart is so proud right now!

I have been an absent blogger lately. I have much to write about, so hopefully I will get the motivation in the next few days to do just that!

Where to begin, oh where...

I guess I should start by saying...

...Hi, my name is Jennifer and I jump out of planes.

Say what?

Yes, it is true!

When it comes down to it we probably did this for different reasons. Tobi did this for her dad, in honor of his life. I was moved by the adventures my uncle had in his life to live mine to the fullest. I don't know what I expected to feel, other than fear for my life, but now that I look back at it I remember my heart being full of peace as I fell through the blue blue sky, high above the mountains. I couldn't help but have the feeling of him watching over us from the heavens.

Every adventure has a story, and here is mine.

I could start off by saying it was a beautiful fall morning in the mountains. I could start off by talking about the great time I was having away from my family in the pressure cooker of a state we call home.

But I can't.

Because I seriously thought I was going to puke or pee my pants or both. The sleepless night didn't help at all. It was horrible! On the way up the canyon from Colorado Springs Tobi asked me, in all seriousness, "Are you doing this just because I wanted to?" Or something like that. I said no, of course. Because it is the truth. Though I was scared stiff I was so excited to do something totally out of the norm. My greatest fear is falling without being able to control myself. I felt like skydiving was confronting that fear head on. I want to have an exciting life, and I want my kids to look back and say, "look how cool my mom was!"

We got there early, so we sat in the car and played around on facebook, dropping hints to all of our friends about what we were getting ready to do. One of the staff came up to the car and asked us if we were there for skydiving. When we said yes he asked if we wanted to go ahead and come in to start filling out the paperwork. What was our answer? A very timid, sure? I think we were trying to put it off as long as possible.

The video we had to watch was hilarious! I wish I would have taken a picture of the guy on there that was supposed to be telling us about what we were signing and the madness we were getting ready to partake in. He had a super long beard. I think Tobi called him and Amish skydiver. I also wish I would have taken the time to get a copy of, or read, what we were signing. I am sure there was a lot of, "Skydiving is an extreme sport. Skydive the Rockies is not responsible for the loss of life." You know, stuff like that.

Then it was time. Time to get all suited up.

Hot, right? Right???

I will be honest when I say that the "training" went by in a blur. I am not surprised that I remember little of what I was told to do. I was so not ready when we were told to get in the truck so we could head off to the plane.

The plane. Let me just tell you about the plane. I wouldn't say that we were jumping out of a perfectly good plane. There was duck tape on the walls, the carpet was coming up in places. We were told to not touch the walls when trying to get into the plane. Oh, there was no door, which I know is important when skydiving, still it was strange. Planes are supposed to have doors. I don't know, but I am pretty sure that jumping out seemed more doable than landing in it. That may be the point though.

They told us when we were halfway up, but I can tell you now that they were totally lying. I think they just wanted us to feel comforted about the time we had remaining. Before we knew it, it was Tobi's turn to go. It felt like slow motion to me. Watching her move to the doorless door of the plane and disappear into the heavens was like an eternity to me. However, watching her be brave enough to swing her legs outside the plane made me feel a little more comfortable. Then it was my turn. It was no eternity, let me tell you. From the time he said, "legs flat and move to the door" and the time I was falling out of the plane seemed like 10 seconds, seriously!

The feeling of free fall is nothing like I thought it would be. Not scary. Not at all! Breathtaking, Awesome, Humbling... these are words that come to mind. 10,000 feet and falling was truly the most amazing thing I have experienced in my life. I think of other events that I consider some of the greatest (which is a whole other blog), the birth of my children being on the top of my list. No more, no way. Skydiving was WAY cooler!

I love this picture only because it reminds me of exactly how I felt when we landed. A crazy mix of adrenaline, excitement, wonder, amazement, what was I thinking?!, that was so COOL!

So, there you have it. Go out and do something crazy with someone you love. You won't regret it!

It Came, They Went...

Miss C and Mister P started school last week.

Not a tear was shed, well except for my hubby, but don't tell him I told you that!

Third grade and kindergarten. Can you believe that? I know.

I can't believe my babies are growing so fast. They are both so excited for school. I thought that would fade after the first week, but they still wake up eager to get dressed and get their lunches packed.

Miss C is the jewel of every teachers classroom. So eager to learn and to help others. She loves having her brother at school with her. She holds his hand and walks him to class every day. She even watches for him in the hallway when she is going between classes, to make sure he is doing okay.

You should see the face of my cute boy when I pick him up from school everyday. He is so happy to see me, and he is so excited to tell me all the things he learned. It really does bring a smile to my face.

****The following pictures make me feel like a good mom, just sayin'. I'll take whatever I can get!****

I do have to tell you a quick story...

I think it was Monday of this week, Miss C came home from school and told me about the girl that sits next to her at lunch. Apparently she brought a pizza lunchable for lunch and only liked to eat it warm. Like Miss C said, "not at school!" Miss C didn't want her to be hungry so she offered her the only thing left in her lunch box, carrots. The girl declined, but I am glad Miss C learned a valuable lesson. She said, "Heavenly Father would give her His food. He wouldn't want her to be hungry." The next two days Miss C brought a little something extra, just in case, something healthy!

I just love when little ones remember lessons they were taught and learn how to use them in their lives.

On August 5th my Baby B turned 1!

We just had dinner and cup cakes at home for his birthday. Nothing big, just little family dinner. It was really nice.

I can't believe this year has gone so fast. He is growing into such a big boy!

My Day, In Random Thoughts...

..."Today is going to be a freakin' craptacular day" was the first thought that ran through my head this morning. All I know was, the sun was up, Baby B was screaming "DADDY" at the top of his lungs (because it is his favorite word at the moment) and I was not ready to get out of bed. All I wanted to do was lock my door, put a pillow over my head and sleep all day. Which is precisely what I did... For about 10 minutes and then my little one wouldn't stop talking. I guess I could have turned off the monitor, but I suspect that wouldn't have worked for very long either...

...Speaking of locking doors. My kids were driving me CRAZY. What's new about that, you ask? Nothing. Because I had just blown up over a lid not being screwed all the way, I thought it best to go to my room and take a shower in peace. Every mom knows the only way to do that is to lock the door. I have never attempted this before, at least not without the hubby here. Baby B was taking a nap, so I assumed the world would not come crashing down in a flaming ball of fire in the next 15 or 20 minutes.

So there I was, standing a stream of hot water without a child sitting right outside the shower door playing blocks or asking me life's most intriguing questions. Enjoying the peace and quiet. Then I start to hear knocking, banging, pounding on the bedroom door. A pang of motherly guilt screams through me. I start to think... What if something is wrong? What if Baby B woke up and Miss C tried to take him out and dropped him? What if my accident prone Mister P is laying on the hallway floor in a pool of blood because he didn't pay attention and slipped and fell? What if...What if...what if... The mom in me takes over and I get out of the shower, run to the door wrapped in a towel to take in the horrible news. Miss C was standing there with this look. I said, "what is wrong?" She said, "Why is your door locked?" I said, "Because. What is wrong?" She said, "Your door is locked." I.GIVE.UP!...

...I feel like I am turning into "that mom". You know who I am talking about. The one who doesn't care anymore. The one who stays in jammies or workout clothes all day long. The one who never goes anywhere except the grocery store.

Let me clear a little something up real quick. When I do go to the grocery store, when I go to work and when I do manage to get out of the house, I do look I care. I am no longer "that mom".

That being said, I feel bad when I don't care. My kids notice, my hubby notices, but nobody says anything. Probably for fear of their own life, but seriously, I know they notice. This has got to change! I have come to a conclusion. I need friends, more friends, real friends. I long for my friends back home, a few in particular. You now who you are. Sisters in every sense of the word. {sigh} But I don't live there anymore so I need to get up and get out!

...Today I did something I swore I would never do. I threatened Miss C with sending her to live with her father if she doesn't shape up. That was bad, VERY VERY BAD! I shouldn't have done that.

A Tour, Day Four...

This was by far my favorite day in Washington D.C.

We started at the Lincoln Memorial and ended at the Library of Congress. And yes, we walked the whole way. I don't think I have ever been as tired as I was this day. Exhausted is probably a more appropriate word!

We also had a chance to visit one more memorial.

The Vietnam Memorial

The roses all around Washington were so amazing. The air was so sweet, it smelled of roses everywhere! I could have spent all day looking at them!

I am happy and sad at the same time that we saved the library until last. Sad because I was so tired that I didn't get at much out of it as I probably could have, but this had to be the most amazing building I have ever been in. I highly recommend it to everybody who visits Washington.

We were lucky enough to get a private tour from Chris, Tobi's cousin. I learned so much more than I would have if we just visited. And we got to see this room, which is closed to the public.

And we also got to see the Librarian of Congress when we were walking through an underground tunnel between buildings. What a treat!

This marks the end of our journey.

I wish I could have posted more pictures, but I took 481 of them and I also have all of Tobi's that I have yet to go through.

I had an amazing time. I can't wait to go back!

A Tour, Day Three...

First, Iwo Jima Memorial.

The size of this monument is particularly amazing. It is so perfectly proportioned that you cannot really feel how big it is. I don't remember the exact size, but one on those rifles is something like 16 or 18 feet.

This would be the first place we ran into this pretty amazing group of people. Most were WWII veterans.

Onto Arlington National Cemetery.

Robert E. Lee mansion.

This is the view from Robert F. Kennedy's grave. Absolutely breathtaking!

Equally as beautiful.

Next Stop, World War II Memorial.

This is the Freedom Wall. It has 4,048 Stars. Each represents 100 Americans who died in the War.

Last but certainly not least, Vietnam Memorial.

Even today, as I look at these pictures, a wave of emotion overtakes me. I am thankful to have had the experience of visiting these memorials. I have a new found gratitude for those who have served our country, and an even greater gratitude for those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

The Vietnam Memorial was especially emotional because our faithful tour guide, if you will, is a veteran of this war. The emotion that overcome him as he told us the stories and showed us the names of the comrades he lost will forever be etched in my memory. Thank you to the Kernal, Colonel Ken.

I feel that every American should have the opportunity to not just visit, but experience these memorials. There is so much more to them than just statues or a wall.

Second White Dress...

In our religion we can get baptized when we turn eight.

On our recent trip back to Colorado we had Miss C's Baptism. It was a joy to see her so happy. On the plane that night she wrote a letter. It said:

My Baptism

Today I got baptized.

Today was the best day of my life.

And I got the gift of the Holy Ghost.

I wish daddy could get baptized too.

She was baptized by my Dad.

The kids couldn't get enough of the water. In fact, when Miss C walked down into the font Mister P said, "Hey, that's my sister in there and her pants are all wet!"

Colors of the Rainbow...

I don't know what happened. How do my kids think that rainbow flowers are the way to mom's heart?

Where did I go wrong?

Miss C was devastated to find out that these flowers don't naturally bloom in colors of purple, blue, orange and green. Sorry.

I can see how these would appeal to them. Colors are their favorite things right now!

A few days late, as usual...

On April 8th Miss C turned 8. She keeps saying "I was 8 on the 8th! That's weird."

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, again, TO MY BABY GIRL!

Baby B is 8 months old. He is getting so big! I tried hard to get a good picture of him, but we all know that is no easy task. I was too lazy and tried to take a picture with my computer instead of the camera. I can never seem to find the time to upload them to my computer, which is why most of my pictures are never shared. Yep, pure laziness!

He moved so fast, most of them are blurry. This is how it went...

This chronological order of pictures pretty much explains how active this little boy is. He refuses to sit up. I think it is kind of an inconvenience. He moves so much, it doesn't seem that he would want to sit still long enough to actually balance on his bum. When we try to make him sit he locks his legs straight and stiffens his back. Enough said.

He doesn't crawl, but does a mean army man. He gets where he needs to go on that tummy of his, and fast too!

You Want Me To Eat What?...

I tried to be the mom that made all homemade baby foods. I even started doing it, and was enjoying it. I was making Baby B a healthier boy by eating foods made from home. Right? He is going to love them because they are made with love. Right?

Wrong.

I couldn't figure out why he wasn't eating food. I couldn't even make him eat. He would gag it up every time.

Baby B hates my food. What is wrong? It tastes the same as what comes from the jar, I tried it myself!

So I broke down and stocked up on the pre-made stuff. He likes it. Whatever! So needless to say we have been doing a lot of experimenting this week. When Miss C and Mister P were babies they would not touch a vegetable with a 10 foot pole. Baby B was doing good. He loves squash, so I tried carrots and peas.

The outcome was not so great!

Man, oh man do I love these pictures! Priceless! My Hubby calls it torture, but whatever, what does he know? Us mom's have to get pictures like this. It is called blackmail!

So it seems Baby B is the same as his brother and sister. No veggies. Except squash. I am going to try carrots and apples, but I am pretty sure how won't go for it. We'll see!

I know this is a bit old, but I had to share. When we were packing up our old house to make the big move I told Mister P and Miss C that they would bring one backpack full of toys. That's it, that is all they would have for a while, until the boxes get unpacked.

Of course Mister P picked his transformers.

Really? What else would find it's way into his backpack?

The day the movers' were at our new house, loading it up with boxes and all our other junk, I came in to find this.

Atop our mantel was this. All, I mean ALL big and small, of his transformers were lined up on our mantel, "protecting the human race."

Hey, it would not be our house if it wasn't filled with Autobots and Decepticons.

I love my little boy. He is just so precious!

Look what I have done.

I have landed myself, and my family, in an extremely diverse area. (I don't know how else to put it.) Most days I don't have a problem with it, but today when I took Miss C to her first day of school I was a little worried. I don't have a problem with people of other races, I just hope the kids and parents around here are the same.

Being a minority is a little nerve racking at times.

I have to admit when I was shopping yesterday in a different part of town I felt so much more at home. Note: this part of town is only a few miles up the road.

Is it time to move yet?

Autobots, not Decepticons, JUST Autobots...

Friday night we celebrated Mister P's birthday since we will be moving on Friday, which is his birthday.

He informed me that there were to only be Autobots, and was totally offended when somebody suggested a Decepticon. Oh, the poor lady at the bakery! She offered him a "bad guy" and quickly set her straight with the correct name for them and the reprimanded her for even offering such a thing!

He even put all of his Autobots around the cake to protect it and "the human race"

Mom and Guy Guy gave him this Bumble voice maker. You talk into a microphone and it plays music while you talk, just like Bee. Ho totally loves it! It is hilarious to see him walking around wearing this on his head!

Please ignore the disaster that is my house in the background. Like I said, we are getting ready to move.

It has blue tooth, so I can talk on my phone through the speakers.

Miss C is thrilled because it has a special place just for her ipod.

Mister P is especially excited about the cup holders in the back. Why? Good question!

Seven Years, Really?...

Seven years ago, yesterday, my hubby and I met. This picture was taken a week later, the day before he left for Iraq.

We lay in bed last night recounting the events of that week. I don't know what this man was thinking when Miss C, baby C then, and I burst through my parents door. What would make him want to pursue me, a single mom? He doesn't know either. He said, "I don't know, I just knew I had to."

The next year was the hardest year. Little did we know it would prepare us for a marriage of separation.

Why I Love the Olympics...

I have a new love of snowboard cross.

And women's downhill skiing. It scares the crap out of me.

Ice dancing normally puts me to sleep but this year I was captivated!

And yes, I am a dork. I loved these! Can I have one too? It will get a lot of use in Texas!

Sometimes what I love about the Olympics isn't the sports and the athletes themselves. It is little things, like the stories they share about athletes here and there. This time it was a commercial. It brought tears to my eyes every time!

GOOD BYE...

HELLO...

I don't know how I feel about this just yet.

There are days I am excited to start a new life in a new place. I am definitely excited to be with my husband again, and the kids with their daddy. I am excited to take advantage of the warm weather when there is usually several inches of snow on the ground here. I am excited to decorate another house! For those of you who know me well, know that is something I get excited about - easily. I am excited for Rudy's and Texas-shaped waffles.

Then there are days that I am overwhelmed by the sheer size of this place. I mean seriously 10 lane highways? I am so sad to be leaving my friends. So sad, in fact, that I have cried about three times today and likely will again before the end of this post. Then the summers, nope not excited for them! Not to mention bugs. That just sends shivers up my spine. And as much as I am used to starting over, I am scared to start over again.

Colorado is my home, but Texas feels a lot like home too.

Now it is 6:15 and my kids are starving. In the name of all that is good, WHY do my kids need to eat? They are so needy!

Remember back when I told you about Kathy's baby shower?

She had her baby! On December 20th. I know, I know I can be so retarded sometimes. I can't believe I forgot to post this picture. In my defense I was on my way to work when I stopped by the hospital to see her, and I left the next morning to go out of town for Christmas.

I Don't Know, I Didn't Do It...

I am not a bad mom. Really, I'm not. There are just so may things wrong with this picture.

The phone rang. I had to put Baby B somewhere so I put him down in his bouncer. Normally I buckle him up, but I didn't think I needed to for just a moment. I answered, it was my hubby. He asked me to do something for him, so I obliged. Then I heard my screaming baby in the other room. I thought to myself, "what is all the fuss about?" I walked in to find this. The poor boy was crying louder than I had ever heard him cry. I felt bad because I had to go get the camera to take a picture before I took him out.

From now on, I will just put him on the floor!

If only I took a picture every time I found him wedged underneath the entertainment center, hanging halfway out of his swing or, well, I should just stop there!

I don't get political. Not with my friends, not with my family. I just don't. Just with my hubby, because I can and because we agree!

Here is my political input for the year.

Am I sick of paying an arm and a leg for health insurance every month?

YES.

Am I tired of paying an additional 10 times that monthly amount to reach my maximum out of pocket for the year?

YES.

Do I want to pay for the health care for all those who can't afford it, as well?

NO.

Do we need health care reform?

YES.

Do I agree with how it is all going down in Washington?

NO.

Do I think they have figured out why so many americans need expensive health care?

NO.

Am I thankful to Michelle Obama, our first lady, for shining a light on childhood obesity?

YES.

I am alone. And it stinks. When I get in bed late at night I am used to it being warmed up for me. Last night when I climbed into bed, it was cold. And empty.

I just forgot how lonely an empty bed was.

This is what I feel like.

I am pretty sure I hit an all time low this morning. As I stood in my closet contemplating outfits for church, I wanted to curl up in the corner with my knees to my chest. Long story, extremely short...I skipped church today because I feel like this picture.

I gained 30 pounds.

Yes, I did.

I know that it is from my pregnancy. I was doing so good after I had Baby B. And I was nursing to boot! I lost almost all of that 30 pounds. Then I stopped nursing. And then my weight slowly started to creep back up on me. I don't know how I let this happen. I am a fairly healthy person.

Today was a beginning.

I have many tools to help me along my new journey. My wonderful Hubby bought me an elliptical so I don't have to go to the gym. My MIL bought me some weights and a yoga ball for Christmas . I have joined a blog, a private blog. A blog where ladies, just like me, started a journey today. A place where I can be accountable to somebody. A place for friends, not competitors.

Resolutions, Smesolutions...

I never, EVER, make New Year's Resolutions. The simple fact is, my goals today will, most likely, not be my goals months from now. This year I decided to give it a little try.

To be a better wife and mom, by reading scriptures more often, saying family prayer and getting dinner on the table EVERY night!
Not to lose weight, but to be healthy and fit again.
To be completely, absolutely, 100% debt free by the end of this year. (a little lofty, I know, but I am fairly sure this is possible)
To only move once.

I am pretty sure these are all attainable goals. Let the year begin!
